Karate-do Japanese Martial Arts. Self-defense is the essence of karate training. Special training techniques make all parts of the human body an effective instrument of self- protection. To this end the body is strengthened and hardened, reflex times quickened, and the head, hands, fingers, elbows, knees, feet and other body parts are conditioned in techniques of defense and attack. Karate training helps student to respect human dignity. Physical conditioning and body toning is another important facet of karate training. Over a period of time regular training will increase one's stamina, lower the heart rate, improve blood circulation, strengthens major body muscles, and eliminate excess weight. Karate strengthens the body on one hand, and improves flexibility on the other. In addition to the physical demands, karate helps to increase power of concentration. Spiritually, karate is closely linked to YOGA. For whatever reason a person is originally attracted to karate, he will find that training is a multi-dimensional experience for the body mind and soul.

Anyone without a specific health problem from 4 to 60 can find enjoyment in karate. Each person can progress in karate at his own rate, but of course the benefit will be in accord with the seriousness with which one approaches training. For young people, karate helps develop power of concentration. Advancement in karate also gives our youth a sense of self-worth and self - confidence. The aggressive child may burn up his excess energy in training rather in mischief. Increased rhythm, strength, and muscular coordination are among the advantage of karate training for children and adults, as well.

Women find karate an excellence and enjoyable means of firming their figures and obtaining good body tone. For the young and energetic, karate is a means of channeling energy into a vigorous yet graceful art form. For those who enjoy competition, it is available in fast moving; non-contact sparing matches (kumite) and forms (kata).

Karate is a martial art, which combines precise body control with intense concentration and dynamic action. The Goju Ryu Karate do Shoseikan India emphasizes perfection of the basic punching, blocking and kicking techniques, believing that the student can excel in karate only when a solid foundation in these fundamentals has been achieved. Advanced kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) instructions challenge the students to integrate fundamental techniques in dynamic patterns of defense and attack. Karate, like any art form, is intricate and has many facets- FITNESS, HEALTH, SPORTS, DEFENSE, MENTAL DESCIPLINE, PHILOSOPHY, etc. If you would like to learn more about karate, we invite you to stop in at the Goju Ryu Karate do Shoseikan India dojo (training hall) and talk with our instructors; watch a class or join us in training.
